THERESA VILLIERS WELCOMES CONSERVATIVE SHOW OF SUPPORT FOR CYPRUS

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet has welcomed the annual event on Cyprus taking place at the Conservative Party Conference. The reception, co-hosted by Theresa, Charles Tannock MEP and Conservatives for Cyprus was held in the Midland Hotel in Manchester on 7th October. It was attended by the High Commissioner of Cyprus Alexandros Zenon and Mark Francois, the Shadow Europe Minister. Also in attendance were Andreas Papaevripedes of Democratic Rally UK, Marina Yannakoudakis MEP, former MP and MEP Dr Ian Twinn, David Burrowes MP, Andrew Rosindell MP and Peter Droussiotis, Chairman of the Federation of Cypriots in the UK.

Following the meeting, Theresa said “It is very important for the Conservative Party to reaffirm its support for Cyprus every year at our conference. I was delighted that the Shadow Europe Minister was able to attend the event and address us on key issues around the search for a solution.”

“It was also a great honour to have so many VIP guests including the High Commissioner. It was a successful event, marking once again the continuing commitment of Conservative Parliamentarians to the Cyprus cause, both in the House of Commons and the European Parliament.”

“Now is a crucial time for the talks and it is important that everyone who is a friend of Cyprus makes their support clear in the push for a just, lasting and balanced settlement in Cyprus which will see the whole island united again with a single sovereignty, a single international personality and a single citizenship.”
