HELP FOR HAITI

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has issued the following statement on the situation in Haiti:

"This is a tragedy of unimaginable proportions for the people of Haiti. My thoughts and condolences are with the victims of the disaster."

"The priority now must be to get food, shelter and medicine through to those who have survived the quake. There is legitimate frustration regarding the time it is taking to get the basic necessities of life to Haiti. There is an urgent need for clear lines of organisation and proper coordination of the relief effort to get essential help through to the survivors."

"I know that many of my constituents are struggling to make ends meet in the recession. But if their budget can stretch to a donation to help Haiti, I would urge them to visit the website of the Disaster Emergency Committee at:

http://www.dec.org.uk/donate_now/

or ring 0370 60 60 900 to make a donation."
